I'm a UX / UI Designer with a love for chatbots and team management. I spent the last two years at an early-stage tech startup, where I designed and built a chatbot for autistic kids, and built a team from the ground up. Talk to me about OKRs, dogs, and theater!

Hi, I'm Vannessa, and I'm a UX / UI Designer on the Web Design track at Startup Institute. While I'm originally from Los Angeles, my heart belongs to Boston and I'm happy to have been here for 6 years now. After my experience building a team in a startup environment, I was inspired to pursue more technical training, which led me to SI. In my free time, I am a playwright in the PlayLab at Company One, sing in an a cappella group, play an elf druid in my D&D group, and always have at least two books checked out from the library.

Why UX / UI?

Users are the most important part of building, growing, and maintaining a company. If users are confused, frustrated, or bored with your product, every part of the product, team, and company suffers. When your product aligns with user needs and expectations, it's a win win win situation (throw in an extra win for yourself, you deserve it).

Why startups?

Startups are about creativity, passion, and freedom. I worked in a startup for two years before joining Startup Institute, and it was the best job I've ever had. There's something new every day (at least), and you get to be a significant, hands-on part of building a product. Watching everything come together is a bit like magic, and when things fall apart you know you've got a strong team that will help each other learn, grow, and try again.

Seen any good dogs recently?

Trick question - all dogs are good dogs. Also, yes.
